Guidelines for Obtaining Permission For Use of the Australian Coat of Arms

It is necessary to obtain permission from the Awards & National Symbols section of the Department of the Prime Minister & Cabinet to use the Australian Coat of Arms on a team uniform (or anything else).

The request for permission MUST be submitted by Yachting Australia. Yachting Australia must indicate their support of the request or else permission will not be granted.

Awards & National Symbols reviews each request on a case by case basis and grants permission to those it feels credit the use of the Australian Coat of Arms.

For Yachting Australia to submit a request to Awards & National Symbols, the following conditions need to be met:

• The request must be made by the National Class Association on behalf of it’s “Team”;
• The request must be for an Australian “team” at the Class World Championships;
• The “Team” must have been selected through a published selection policy or recognised criteria;
• A Team/Crew that has been invited to compete in an international event (such as a World Championship) will also be considered. For example ISAF Women’s Match Racing, Interdominion Schools Team racing or similar;
• For any Team selected by Yachting Australia, Yachting Australia will obtain permission for use of the Coat of Arms eg. ISAF Youth Worlds Team, World Sailing Games Team, ISAF Teams Racing Worlds Team etc

To submit a request, the national Class Association should complete the Request for Permission for Use of the Australian Coat of Arms form.
