The National Coaching Program (NCP) is designed to provide a clear and consistent pathway for Coaches in the sport of sailing and to ensure maximum recruitment, retention and development of sailors at all levels.
Coaches play a vital role in our sport. They are responsible for introducing new sailors to racing in a way that enthuses them to continue to sail as well as reach their racing potential. Undertaking training as a coach is an important step in ensuring that you reach your coaching potential, and that you are providing quality coaching to the sailors you are working with.
Whether you are coaching children in a social competition, or want to take coaching more seriously, undertaking Yachting Australia (YA) Coach training and accreditation will provide you with valuable coaching skills and help you improve your own sailing, too.
Yachting Australia Coaching Qualifications
Both Yachting Australia Coaching qualifications are recognised nationally and in some cases, internationally. Closer to home, YA accreditation will open up more coaching opportunities for you at Club, State and National Level.
The Yachting Australia Coaching Qualifications are:
» Club Coach
» State Coach
To find out when the next Club Coach course is being offered in your State or Territory, contact your MYA.
State Coaches are equipped with the knowledge and experience to assist sailors to successfully prepare for State and National Championship events.
Each year, as part of Yachting Australia’s Coach Development Program, there may be opportunities for State Coaches to work with young sailors preparing for their first international competition.
To find out how to become a State Coach, contact your MYA.
National Coaches is a program being developed by Yachting Australia and more information will be available soon. These coaches typically work with sailors preparing for international level competition such as World Championships and Olympic Games Regattas. While there is currently no NCAS accredited training program for those working at this level, Coaches with the necessary skill sets can be found at the State Institutes of Sport and as coaching members of the Australian Sailing Team.
