Europe Class
About the Class: The Europe is a single-handed racing dinghy sailed throughout the world. A popular class for both men and women, the Europe dinghy was introduced as the Women's single-handed Dinghy Class for the 1992 Olympic Games. Sailed widely throughout Europe, the Europe Class was introduced to Australia in 1990 and continues to gain popularity with both men and women. Ideally, Europe sailors fall into the weight range of 55-80kgs, and the mast is set to suit the weight range. At the elite level, women usually fall into the 63-73kg range, with men between 70-80kgs. The Europe dinghy evolved from the Europe moth and uses carbon fibre technology for the mast. The dinghy itself only weighs 45kgs. The Europe Class is an ideal class for the youth moving up through the junior classes.
Australian Success: Although Australia doesn't have any Olympic medallists in the Europe Class, we have excelled at World Championships in this class. Sarah Blanck won the 2002 Europe Class World Championship and Melanie Dennison won silver at the 1999 Europe World Championships behind the 1996 Olympic Silver medallist. 2004 Olympic Representative:
