Disability Education Program
What is the Disability Education Program?
The DEP has been designed by the Australian Sports Commission to give club administrators, coaches, officials and other people involved in sport and sports clubs support and information to enable them to encourage participation at their club of people with disabilities.
There are six, three hour sessions including subjects like 'Opening Doors', 'Play by the Rules' and 'Count me in'.
Where can I do a course?
The modules are delivered by the State Departments of Sport and Recreation and are usually run on demand, needing a group of 10 or more to participate to ensure that the course is viable.
General information is available in a leaflet from the link below (kindly supplied by DSR NSW) and your State or Territory Department of Sport & Rec can assist you if you wish to participate in a course.
Is the course suitable for sailing clubs? Will it be relevant to Sailing?
Yes, the courses have been rewritten for a sailing audience. They have sailing specific exercises and case studies and in most cases they will be presented by someone with sailing experience.
Can I become a presenter?
Yes, there is a funding policy to enable people to recieve support when applying to be a presenter. You must meet the requriements set out by the Disability Education Program and by Yachting Australia in the following policy and make an application to Yachting Australia.
