The National Team Racing Committee met in late April discussing matters relating to upcoming events. Of interest were the 2008 Australian Team Racing Championship being hosted during August in Western Australia, which is a selection event for the 2009 ISAF World Team Racing Championship being held in January also in Western Australia.
In discussions it was recommended that the Australian Team Racing Championship be a Round Robin format as mirrors the 2009 ISAF World Team Racing Championships.
Also considered was the importance for Race Officials at such a critical selection event to be impartial. The committee recommended to Yachting Australia that Race Officials who are aware of a conflict of interest shall decline an invitation to serve at the 2008 Australian Team Racing Championship. This is to promote the likelihood of impartiality from Officials at the event.
The issue of selection to represent Australia at the 2009 ISAF World Team Racing Championship was looked at with great interest. The question of whether Yachting Australia should be using a subjective selection process was raised or should the system of selecting existing teams be retained. Each method has its benefits and difficulties, and the committee recommended retaining the currently used principles of selecting an existing team.
