Q: What do I need to do to become a Club Coach?
A: You will need to
» be a competent Club level competitor,
» Complete the NCAS Beginning Coaching General Principles course
» Complete the YA Club Coach course,
» Demonstrate that you can coach on and off the water.
» Hold a current Senior First Aid Certificate and a current YA Safety Boat Handling certificate.
Q: How do I do the Beginning Coaching Principles Course?
A: Register at the ASC’s Online Learning Portal for the free BCGP at https://learning.ausport.gov.au/jPortal/default.aspx
Q: How long does the BCGP course take?
A: The course takes around 4-6 hours and you can either do it all at once, or do 1 module at a time the system will save your information as you move through the online course allowing you to fit it into and around your other commitments.
Q: How much does the BCGP course cost?
A: Nothing. Nada. Not a cent. It’s FREE, courtesy of the Australian Sports Commission.

A: Contact the MYA in your state or territory
Q: How do I get a Senior First Aid Certificate?
A: Contact your Local MYA, or any one of the following organisations that conduct First Aid Training in your State or Territory such as St Johns First Aid, Red Cross, Surf Life Saving Australia, etc.
Q: How do I organise my practical coaching hours?
A: Contact your club and offer your services – they will most likely have a coaching program and need some help. Ask your course coordinator for assistance with this, too.

A: Cont act your MYA to arrange assessment with a coach assessor.

» Demonstrate that you can deliver a coaching program to sailors preparing for their National Championship.
» Hold a current Senior First Aid Certificate and a current YA Safety Boat Handling certificate.
Q: How much will it cost?
A: This will depend on what course you have already completed but as a guide, the ICGP course is around $250, The State Coach course is around $600

A: Yes. State Coaches can typically offer their services on a commercial basis to clubs, classes, schools, and individuals.
