Back:  TrainingInstructing and CoachingIntroduction to Scheme Certification, Instructors and Coaches pathways

Instructor

The pre-requisite for attending the Instructors course is:

1)    current Senior First Aid (Applied First Aid) certificate

2)    Yachting Australia Powerboat Handling Certificate

3)    Level of competence in the scheme you wish to instruct

4)    16 yrs old (must be 18 yrs old to be the head or lead instructor at a centre) * This has been updated to reflect consistency with the club coaching qualification

5)    Possess a Scheme specific Logbook that details the course syllabus

6)    Comply with relevant State Maritime Licence requirements

Instructors must attend a Scheme Specific Instructor Course run by a Senior Instructor. During the course they will be assessed and on the final day the assessment will be moderated by a second Senior Instructor. On successful assessment they will be issued with an Instructor qualification. If further work is required an ‘Assistant Instructor qualification’ will be issued. A re-assessment would need to be done by a Senior Instructor in most cases.

Experience working at a Training Centre either as an Assistant Instructor or helper will be of significant advantage.

Assistant Instructor

The pre-requisite of doing the Assistant Instructors course is

1)    Minimum age of 12 yrs old

2)    Comply with relevant State Maritime Licence requirements

Assistant Instructors must attend an Assistant Instructor course run by a Senior Instructor or an Instructor at an accredited Training Centre (please note: The Training Centre must be accredited to deliver the Assistant Instructor course).
