Instructors

Instructors introduce and teach new skills and knowledge, as set out in the National Training Program syllabus, to course participants.

Pre-requisites

The pre-requisites of applying to attend an Instructors Course are:

  • Hold a current Applied First Aid Certificate
  • Hold a Yachting Australia Powerboat Handling Certificate (for Powerboat, Dinghy and Windsurfing Instructors)
  • Hold the level of competence in the Program you wish to instruct
  • Be 16 years old (must be 18 years old to be the Head Instructor at a Centre)
  • Comply with relevant State Maritime Licence requirements
Courses

Instructors must attend a Program Specific Instructor Course run by a Senior Instructor. During the Course they will be assessed and on the final day the assessment will be moderated by a second Senior Instructor. On successful assessment they will be issued with an Instructor qualification. If further work is required an ‘Assistant Instructor' qualification will be issued. A re-assessment would need to be done by a Senior Instructor in most cases.

Experience working at a Training Centre either as an Assistant Instructor or helper will be of significant advantage.

The Instructor Course is conducted and recognised nationally and is available for each program. Instructor Courses are run by the State / Territory  Associations. Please contact your relevant  State Association for more details on when they are being held or search for a course below.
