First Aid Certificates
What First Aid Certificates are acceptable in order to gain Yachting Australia Qualifications?
Please note that 'First Aid Certificate' means a current Senior First Aid certificate
Other acceptable First Aid Qualifications include:
- Level 2 Workplace First Aid
- Red Cross - Intermediate First Aid
- Apply First Aid
There are several organisations that offer Senior First Aid certificates. The better known and most widely accepted certificates are from St John's Ambulance Australia, the Australian Red Cross Society, The Royal Life Saving Society Australia and Surf Life Saving Australia.
Certificates are acceptable from any organisation that conducts a course which complies with the requirements of the National Module Code (NMC) AAA854 for Senior First Aid. The certificate must state that it is a Senior First Aid Certificate, have a certificate number, note the date of completion and the 'valid to' date (certificates are valid for three years).
Certain organisations are now conducting Marine First Aid Certificates which cover the type of injuries likely to be incurred in a marine environment and the alternate methods of care whilst in the water or on a boat. As long as these courses cover the requirements of the NMC AAA854, they too are acceptable
All new Yachting Australia Instructors will be required to hold a Current Senior First Aid Qualification.
We are currently discussing with our Member Yachting Associations, the future compulsory requirement for such certificates in order to gain instructor qualifications, or whether a resuscitation certificate will suffice. Your comments are welcomed by the Yachting Australia Training Department
Yachting Australia offers no endorsement of the following products, but has had brought to it's attention the following First Aid Qualifications which can be completed either in part or completely on-line or by distance education.
