Leon Christianakis and his Cydon crew again reveled in ideal sailing conditions in the Whitsunday Islands today to record a comfortable win in the Hahn Premium Race Week Sydney 38 class championship.

Cydon winner of the 2004 Pan Pacific championship at Airlie Beach on Thursday was just to strong on all angles of sailing in a 10-12 knot south east breeze and warm winter sunshine.

The high performance Cydon crew was the star performer winning their class in the 23 n/ml South Molle/Daydream Island race by a remarkable 6 minutes 20 seconds from 77 year old Lou Abrahams helming the Melbourne sloop Another Challenge with another 59 seconds to Team Lexus skippered by James Mayo of Sydney.

Wayne Kirkpatrick skipper of the Hamilton Island sloop Asylum had a run of bad luck which he would like to forget.

The Asylum crew were in good shape out of the start and the crew headed by bowman Aaron Cole had executed a smart spinnaker set and peel when the reset spinnaker flagged off in the wind after the halyard clip let go.

At the time Asylum was preparing for the run across the Whitsunday Passage holding the advantage line in clear wind but seconds later their race fell apart.

Time consuming incidents like having a spinnaker floating on the water always place race winning chances in damage control and skipper Wayne Kirkpatrick was left with little hope of featuring in the major places while the front runner Cydon dictated both tactics and speed to draw away for a handy lead when the crew settled into the beat against the wind.

Skipper Leon Cristianakis assisted by a very clever tactical team of Jamie and Bobby Wilmot drew away to score a runaway class win and firming as the favourite to win the 80n/ml Coral Sea Race starting off Hamilton Island tomorrow.
