2005 SunSmart WA Secondary Schools Sailing Championships
A small but very competitive fleet of 39 boats from a vary array of classes converged on SoPYC for the 2005 SunSmart WA Secondary Schools Sailing Championships. With 7 teams as well as 3 divisions and 2 class fleets everyone was in with a chance of taking home a trophy.
The heavier crews were disappointed with the light conditions for the morning races, but sailed with creativity and skill to be well in contention at the end. Thanks must go to sponsors SunSmart and Ronstan, as well as Bernie Kaaks and his excellent race team for a magnificent regatta sailed in friendly, relaxed but highly competitive environment, even if some cheeky sailors managed to hold a spinnaker all the way around the course.
Race four was the deciding race with no results certain until end; For complete results for the 4 races are available at Yachting Western Australia’s website (www.wa.yachting.org.au). The boats times are equalized for the race length then the Victoria Yardstick is applied to determine the winners. The winners were: Division 1 – Kamikaze; Division 2 – Vigilanti VI; Division 3 – Cruise Control; Flying Ant – Kamikaze; Laser Radial – Free Will. The winning team is decided by the results from 3 boats representing the same school and this year, taking the double, was CCGS B – Spectre, Rear View and Taboo.| Other Links | |
