Wrap Up of Europe Class Europeans
In very hot conditions in Palma, Spain, the Europe class European Championship wrapped up.
With light and shifty conditions throughout the regatta, consistency was the key to a top spot, with the first five positions decided on the final day.
With Olympic Nomination points up for grabs, current world champion Sarah Blanck (AIS/VIS) was the highest placed Australian.
Blanck dropped one spot on the final day of racing to finish 6th overall. After a good start to the regatta, Blanck was faced with some poor starts, which saw her in catch up mode on the final few days of racing.
Saving the best for last, Clare Hozack (NSW), who has only been sailing in the Europe class for one year, completed the regatta with a 1st, 21st and two 4th, placing her first overall in the silver fleet.
Coach Craig Ferris continues to praise the up and coming athlete,
"Clare provided an impressive performance throughout the championship, showing strength and determination in mastering her skills."
Jo Dikkenberg (NSWIS) was black flagged in race nine and finished 34th in race ten, placing her 40th overall. While, Riana Haldane (SA), who was recovering from an illness throughout the regatta tallied an 18th and 38th on the final day of racing.
