Farr 40 Australian fleet grows to 17 boats with Panther joining the fleet.
The Farr 40 class has had an addition to the fleet with a new boat to Australia being campaigned by owner Steve O'Rourke. The boat, which has previously been racing in Asia under the name of Plaloma, will be named Panther and her first race in Australia with her new owner will be the 18th Sydney to Gold Coast race this weekend and then up north at the annual Hahn Premium Hamilton Island Race week.
"With the cracker jack crew I have put together I am looking forward to racing in the races up north and the up coming Farr 40 season" says Steve who is well known for his successful campaigns of his 16 ft skiff, Mumm 30 and Etchell. The very distinct blue-hulled boat will be berthed with the 5 Farr 40's at the CYCA. Record holder for the 40 ft division in the Sydney - Gold Coast race, Warren Weikmann, will be racing his Farr 40, Leroy Brown at Hog's Breath Race Week this year. Both boats will be competing in the IRC divisions.
October 17-19 will see the Farr 40 season kick off with the annual Corinthian Doors Port Stephens Regatta. The class will then race November 1-2 at RPAYC and November 14 -16 will be the Hope Island regatta out of the CYCA which will be a test run for the up coming Farr 40 Worlds in Sydney in 2005. The JP Morgan Regatta on Nov 29-30 will be part of the Farr 40 circuit point score series with the British Trophy on December 13-14 and Alfa Romeo Twilight regatta on Feb 23-26 2004 being the warm up regatta for the final two regattas' that will be included in the Farr 40 circuit will be the Joico Regatta on February 28-29 2004 at RPAYC and the Rosemount Farr 40 Nationals on March 5-7 2004.
