Measurement Certificates
International class rules require boats competing in class events to have a valid measurement certificate. ie. a measurement certificate has been issued for the boat by the National Authority, it is registered in the name of the current owner who is a current member of the respective class association.
Yachting Australia is the National Authority responsible for the issue and maintenance of Class Measurement Certificates and Boat/Sail numbers for some International classes (not all International classes), as per the following:

New Boat Owners
Yachting Australia requires the original copy the completed Measurement Form from the builder or class measurer, and a Building Fee Receipt or the ISAF Plaque Number (you must have one or the other.)
- Download and complete the New Boat Registration Form.
- Return the completed form to Yachting Australia with the $40.00 Registration Fee along with the completed Measurement Form for the boat.
- Yachting Australia will update the class records on the registration database, allocate a sail number, issue the new Measurement Certificate to the owner and send a copy to the class association.
Second Hand Boat Owners
Prior to purchasing a boat for use in class racing, avoid disappointment and first check to ensure that the boat has been issued a valid class measurement certificate and the boat currently conforms to the class rules.
Important Information
-
Keep your certificate in a safe place, Yachting Australia may charge to issue a replacement certificate.
-
An ISAF Measurement Certificate is required to confirm that a boat conforms to the class rules and identify the current registered owner of the boat. The certificate is required to compete in regattas and class events.
-
Please note that sail numbers are NOT transferable between boats.
-
If you purchase a brand new boat hull, or a second hand hull that has not been registered in Australia previously, you will be allocated a sail number once the relevant information has been provided to Yachting Australia.
-
If you purchase a second hand boat that has previously been registered in Australia, you will keep the sail number the boat was originally issued with.
-
Please make sure not to leave the updating of your certificate to the last minute as processing takes some time and there are usually a few people ahead of you in the queue.
-
December/January are busy months for class events, so avoid this time of year if possible. Yachting Australia will be unable to guarantee the issue of a new certificate for regattas between Christmas and January 30th unless we have the relevant paperwork in our office no later than 5 working days prior to Christmas.
