Personal Accident Insurance
Yachting Australia arranges a group personal accident insurance covering all silver and youth members and students undertaking a Yachting Australia Training Scheme at a Yachting Australia Training Centre, or other recognised organisation, between the ages of 5 years and 85 years. Excluding whilst participating in Category 0 races.
By way of brief summary the policy provides the following benefits:
(a) Whilst sailing, cruising, motor boating (no racing) and engaging / participating / officiating in organised races.
(b) Whilst engaging in training or practice for activities as described above.
(c) Whilst staying away from the Insured Person's Country for an extended period for the purposes of participating in activities described above.
(d) Whilst on the premises of Yachting Australia Inc. / MYA affiliated yacht club.
(e) While undertaking a Yachting Australia Training Scheme at a Yachting Australia Training Centre or other recognised organisation.
(f) Whilst on the premises of a Yachting Australia Training Centre or other recognised organisation for the purpose of undertaking a Yachting Australia Training Scheme.
(g) Limited cover is available whilst travelling directly between the activities described in a), b), d) e) or f) and your residence or place of employment or the premises of the Insured, please refer to the full policy wording available on the YA web site for details.
(h) Cover is worldwide. The policy includes other benefits which are detailed in the full policy document. The limits currently arranged by Yachting Australia provide a basic level of support for members surrounding their yachting activities. The cover is not intended to substitute for full private health insurance, vessel third party liability insurances or appropriate workers' compensation or public liability insurances subject to the terms and conditions of the policy and claims settling procedures.
Compensation (subject always to policy terms, clauses, conditions and limitations available on the Yachting Australia web site)
Death A$ 75,000 for persons aged under 18 and over the age of 75 years compensation reduced to A$ 10,000
Permanent Disablement benefits are payable according to a schedule of benefits, being a percentage of the above amount, full details of which are available on the Yachting Australia web site.
Accident Weekly Benefits injury resulting in Temporary Total Disablement and the Insured Person is an income earner.

Parents Inconvenience Allowance where hospitalisation of an Insured Person under 20 years of age who is wholly dependent on his/her

Non-Medicare Medical Expenses following injury resulting in the Insured Person incurring non-Medicare Medical Expenses

Funeral expenses following injury resulting in the accidental death of an Insured Person covered under this insurance

Amount: the actual costs of funeral to a maximum of A$ 5,000
In the last two years the following are examples of some of the claims settled by the scheme.

Blow to face – teeth damaged – $4,900 paid

Finger pulled into pulley - finger amputated at one joint - $3,750 paid

Hit on knee by main sheet car - smashed knee cap and unable to work for 12 months - $11,600 paid

Slip and fall – damage to teeth – $1,361 paid

Thrown against side of boat - shoulder dislocated and requires surgery (no private health fund) - $5,000 paid

Struck on face by spinnaker pole - extensive dental treatment - $5,000 paid

Injury to ankle - $2,042 paid

Slip and fall – fractured front teeth – $3,671 paid.

Fall – twisted knee – $5,000 paid.

Fall – tear of supraspinatus tendon – $4,093 paid.
Accidents are inevitable and the Yachting Australia Personal Accident Scheme is designed to swiftly reimburse Members for relevant out of pocket expenses and loss of income, as per the policy terms and conditions.
